Basic Guidelines

1. Identify and contact a local organization that trains working animals.

2. Therapy animals
3. Police dogs
4. Horses
2. Become involved in the training
1. Volunteer as a short term assistant
2. Ask to observe the training process
3. Pick something you will enjoy.
4. Pick something you can do in one or a few visits
1. All in a day
2. An hour or so for a few days
5. Follow APA and USD guidelines for human subjects N/A
6. Behave in an ethical, legal, and safe manner.
7. Write a report on your experience (see Report page).
8. Your report must explain the purpose of the training and some background on the work

3. Users

Suggested Time Frame

• Perform the research and data gathering before the last month of class.
• Write up the report over the next month.
• Semester Project Reports due two weeks before Semester Exam

Personal networking is a superior approach in contrast to “cold calling.” Contact your friends and have them contact theirs. The probability of finding an appropriate organization is high if there is one in the area. The local Humane Society is probably your best starting point.
