Installation

F/I Spy is easy to install. The instructions show just how easy it is!

Step
_________
Procedure
________________________________________________________
1. Identify the location for F/I Spy on your dash or instrument panel.
2. Identify a source of switched +12 volts. Any wire that is "hot" only when the key is on will do. Make certain that the selected wire is not a lighting wire. F/I Spy uses very little current.
3. Identify a bolt, that you can easily & safely remove, that is attached to a good metal ground. Ensure that it is smaller in diameter than the grounding lug provided for F/I Spy.
4. Carefully rout the power wires from F/I Spy to the points identified in steps 1 and 2. Ensure that these wires will not be pinched, or rub against metal parts of the car.
5. Using the red cable splice provided attach the red power wire from F/I Spy to the wire identified as carrying switched +12 volts.
6. Using the ground lug supplied attach the black power wire from F/I Spy to the lug. Remove the bolt identified in step 3, and pass it through the ground lug. Reinsert the bolt.
7. Route the sense cable from F/I Spy to a convenient firewall penetration point and thread the cable into the engine compartment.
Note: a. Ensure that the sense cable does not interfere with moving parts including the shift mechanism and throttle.
b. Ensure the sense cable does not contact any hot parts of the engine - especially the exhaust manifold!
c. You can cover the sense cable with a protective plastic cover if desired.
8. Run the sense cable to the fuel injectors using existing tie points as available.
9. Using the provided blue T-Taps®, attach the sense wires to the fuel injector wiring according to the following table*:
Cylinder #1 Red wire
Cylinder #2 Yellow wire
Cylinder #3 Green wire
Cylinder #4 Black wire
*Please see the instruction manual for six and eight cylinder vehicles.
Note: a. If you have the wiring diagram for your vehicle, the sense wires may be attached to the F/I wiring at the ECU.
F/I Wire Identification Examine the wires attached to each fuel injector. You should find one wire with the same color coding at each injector. This is the power supply wire. The OTHER wire will be the command wire coming from the ECU. This is where you should attach F/I Spy's sense wire.
